Road on the right leads to the quest houses

Yes -alive- and back in Addis Ababa. I just returned from my grand tour
of Northern Ethiopia :Bahir Dar, Gondar and Lalibela. All of them
amazing and so worth the travel. Bahir Dar/Blue Nile Falls were
breathtaking, the drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar was absolutely
beautiful, people friendly and so beautiful, I have zillions (lets just
say 2G card is full....) of pictures to share when I get home. Lalibela
was breathtaking, so much history, culture and symbolism in the ancient
stone churches, almost as if one was living in middle of the Da Vinci
code.
All of it simply cannot be absorbed in two days but I am glad to have
seen them even in this schedule.
Only pest was the gunatza ,the flees. The old carpets in churches are
supporting a perfect living environment and believe, they are there,
and they very are willing to travel with you further than the church
exit. Had I known this I would have been armed with flee powder up to
my eyeballs, my travel phramacy probably otherwise has all the meds
known to men. Flees or not, still worth the time, can' t wait to show
the pics.
Lalibela is a very poor town but very pictoresque: you are literally
walking the old streets of biblical times, the customes people are
wearing, the donkeys, sheep, you name it.You can almost picture Maria
and Josef taking a walk...
Although I have been travelling alone I have not been alone yet. The
guides took excellent care of me at Bahir dar and Gondar and the same
travellers kept moving to the same places first portion of the trip, it
was almost comical Oh hi there yes we meet again, are you also going to
....you wake up for breakfast and the same people you met in the
previous place are also there.

In Lalibela met some fun people (from Ireland and France) who were
taking a break from the old friend, the magic kingdom of Saudi. We
shared a terrace and a beautiful view from our rooms , red wine and
sunset, could one ask for more. (Anne et al remember those times?
LOL). I also ran into a Finnish group and have breakfast and lunch
together with them...as I had just wondered where they all are, usually
you run into one sooner or later....and sure enough there they were!

One the second day at Lalibela I also met with Shelby and David who are
adopting a little boy Mishamo 6-7 months throught the same agency and
we will be next door neighbors at the quest house, I will be there
tomorrow and them on Wednesday morning. (Two nights....it is getting
very exciting...!)

All of us flew back to Addis on the same plane. And here I am at the
Millenium hotel, battled with the computer for quite a while to get on.
The connections are slooooooooooow so my live updates probably will be
scarse unless the quest house sports a better connection. I will soon
take a quick walk around the neighborhood (well you know who is
nearby...) and then head for famous Metro Pizza and give it a go.
Next time you wil hear from may be after I meet little mister Habtamu!
:) Can't wait!!
